The Axatana is in the Forgotten Tower.

In the launch build covered here, the early pickup route starts from Marrow Keep Beacon, continues through the Outskirts of Mammon, passes Castigator’s Keep, and ends inside the Forgotten Tower. This is not a Prologue weapon and it is not handed out by an NPC.

Use these landmarks:

  • Marrow Keep Beacon: the supported starting point for this early route
  • Outskirts of Mammon: the first major overworld stretch after the south-side shortcut
  • Castigator’s Keep: a mid-route landmark on the showcased path
  • Forgotten Tower: the final area containing the weapon pickup

For broader combat, Shell, and exploration context, see the Mortal Shell II gameplay guide. For another early dual-wield option in Fainweald, see the Axe & Dagger location guide.

Yes, but early has conditions.

You can reach the Axatana relatively early once you have access to Marrow Keep Beacon and the south-side route. Current gameplay evidence supports that route, but it does not support these stronger claims:

  • not during the Prologue
  • not immediately after starting a New Game
  • not at the literal first minute of play

Creator titles such as “FROM THE START” or “Right from the Start” are marketing language, not in-game UI facts. Joe Hammer Gaming’s transcript also notes the pickup is not immediately out of the gate, even though it can be done before the first dungeon with enough early beacon progress.

If the route feels too dangerous, the optional Slayer Seal in Marrow Keep is one way to make early combat easier. That is a player-choice recommendation, not a requirement for the weapon itself.

This is the compressed route supported by the current gameplay footage and transcript evidence:

  1. Once you have access to Marrow Keep Beacon, start there.
  2. From the top of Marrow Keep, unlock the south-side teleporter / shortcut and travel to the Outskirts of Mammon.
  3. From the Outskirts beacon, run the main path straight ahead through the broken alcove and across the bridge. Sprint past or dive through the early enemies rather than stopping to farm them.
  4. Use the route’s jump / teleport gates carefully. Stop in front of each gate when needed, face the target, then jump through.
  5. Continue past the gates, ramps, and left-hand bridge sections until the route reaches Castigator’s Keep, then keep pushing toward the Forgotten Tower.
  6. Enter the Forgotten Tower, go left up the stairwell, turn right through the broken wall, and continue through the next gate / teleporter section.
  7. At the final gated room, interact with the switch / button beside the door to open it.
  8. Enter the room, deal with the strong enemy if needed, and pick up the Axatana on-site.

The early route uses the in-game location name Outskirts of Mammon.

After the Marrow Keep south-side shortcut, fast travel or teleport to this beacon and treat it as the main running segment. From here, the supported path is a long sprint through enemy pressure, broken stonework, bridges, and multiple jump / teleport gates.

This section is enemy-heavy. The checked transcripts recommend sprinting through, healing if you get hit, and using dive / dodge to avoid one-shot pressure rather than clearing every pack.

After the Outskirts of Mammon stretch, the route continues through gate sections, ramps, bridges, and more teleport jumps. The showcased gameplay also passes Castigator’s Keep before the final tower approach.

The Forgotten Tower also has a separate Night Mode objective: after collecting Depleted, Thawed, and Faded Gland, you can offer all three at the top of the tower for Seedbearer’s Scripture. This is separate from the Axatana pickup.

Inside the Forgotten Tower, both checked transcripts agree on the same late-route shape:

  1. Enter the tower and go left up the stairwell.
  2. Turn right toward the broken wall / broken area.
  3. Continue through the next teleporter / gate section.
  4. Reach the final gated room with the nearby switch / button.

Joe Hammer Gaming’s transcript notes the final gate may start closed and must be opened from the side switch. NewDengs shows the same door-side button setup before the pickup room.

How to get the Axatana inside the Forgotten Tower

Section titled “How to get the Axatana inside the Forgotten Tower”

The weapon is a direct pickup in the final room. It is not an NPC reward, quest payout, or chest unlock shown in the current evidence.

What the footage supports:

  1. Use the switch / button beside the final door.
  2. Enter the room behind the gate.
  3. A strong enemy is present in that room.
  4. Pick up the Axatana on-site.
  5. The game UI displays NEW WEAPON ACQUIRED — AXATANA.

The inventory confirms the weapon as AXATANA; this gameplay footage shows it equipped at +5. Gameplay footage via Gamer Guru.

The inventory screen in the checked Gamer Guru footage also confirms the weapon name as AXATANA and shows that copy equipped at +5. Treat that upgrade level as observed in this footage, not as a guaranteed drop state for every player.

Not confirmed.

  • NewDengs clears the room enemy before picking up the weapon.
  • Joe Hammer Gaming says he is not entirely certain whether defeating that enemy is strictly required.

For safety, most players should assume the room is dangerous and prepare to fight or run cleanly past the enemy. This page does not state a confirmed hard requirement to kill the guardian before the pickup appears.

It is a legitimate early weapon detour once the Marrow Keep south-side route is open.

What the evidence supports:

  • It is a named weapon you can pick up before much of Mammon is fully explored.
  • Launch creators built dedicated early-location routes for it.
  • The checked Gamer Guru footage shows the pickup and inventory confirmation clearly.

What is creator opinion, not game UI fact:

  • “best weapon in the game”
  • “ overpowered”
  • “FROM THE START” timing claims

NewDengs describes it as strong for dual wielding and shows the moveset after pickup, but those are creator impressions from the video, not official weapon-tier documentation. If the Forgotten Tower gauntlet is too punishing, come back after more beacon progress or after picking up easier early tools such as the Slayer Seal.

In the Forgotten Tower, reached from the early Marrow Keep route through the Outskirts of Mammon.

Yes, relatively early once you have access to Marrow Keep Beacon and the south-side route, but not during the Prologue and not immediately from a fresh New Game.

Marrow Keep Beacon.

Does the route go through the Outskirts of Mammon?

Section titled “Does the route go through the Outskirts of Mammon?”

Yes. The in-game UI confirms that location name on the supported route.

Do I have to kill the enemy in the final room?

Section titled “Do I have to kill the enemy in the final room?”

Not confirmed. NewDengs defeats the enemy first; Joe Hammer Gaming did not verify whether the kill is mandatory.

The Gamer Guru footage used for this guide shows an acquired / equipped Axatana at +5, but that is not proof every player or state will always show +5 on pickup.
