Quick Answer
Section titled “Quick Answer”- Total: 11 map fragments confirmed in current launch/Advanced Access coverage.
- Purpose: each fragment reveals fog for its section of the overworld map.
- Do you need all 11? no, you can progress without full collection, but navigation is much easier when you collect them.
- Order on this page: region-first (Fainweald 1-5, then Mammon 1-6), because that matches how most routes open naturally.
What do Map Fragments do in Mortal Shell 2?
Section titled “What do Map Fragments do in Mortal Shell 2?”Map fragments are not passive collectibles. In current launch guides, the map does not clear just by walking through an area. Instead, you must travel to crow-marked Ruk statues and interact with the pedestal in front of each statue.
When you pick up a fragment:
- that map section is revealed immediately (no extra turn-in step),
- the crow marker for that location is cleared,
- your navigation improves for nearby routes, beacons, and side paths.
For your first Fainweald pickup, multiple launch sources also report an extra effect: Corrupt Gate markers appear for that region, which helps you plan boss/beacon progress.
If you are currently routing leveling loops, this is also why map fragments pair well with the Gloom farm guide: clearer map visibility means less wasted travel between farm attempts and beacon resets.
Do Map Fragments reveal the map?
Section titled “Do Map Fragments reveal the map?”Yes. Based on current launch-window reporting, the mechanism is:
- Finish prologue and enter the wider world.
- Follow crow icons to Ruk statues.
- Interact with the pedestal at each statue.
- The corresponding map area is revealed immediately.
There is no reliable evidence in current sources that you must hand fragments to an NPC. The reveal behavior is treated as instant at pickup.

Fainweald Map Fragment locations
Section titled “Fainweald Map Fragment locations”Map Fragment 1 - Widow’s Overlook route statue
Section titled “Map Fragment 1 - Widow’s Overlook route statue”Location: Hilltop Ruk statue reached from the Widow’s Overlook path, near a large tree and jump pad.
How to reach it:
- Start at Widow’s Overlook Beacon.
- Follow the southeast route; pass the Great Arbiter of Flesh arena on your right.
- Continue to the cultist group and the large tree area.
- Use the jump pad to the right of the tree.

What to watch for: Flying enemies around the tree can chunk early HP if you sprint through.
Map Fragment 2 - Blackridge Pass rope-bridge branch
Section titled “Map Fragment 2 - Blackridge Pass rope-bridge branch”Location: Blackridge Pass branch near the trial altar and paired rope bridges.
How to reach it:
- Move into Blackridge Pass progression.

- Interact at Ruk’s pedestal near the beacon-side route.
Requirement: Current route guides describe a corruption-blocked branch in this area; collect enough progression resources to open that path before attempting this fragment.
What to watch for: If you cannot physically enter the marked branch, you are likely early on progression unlocks for that route.
Map Fragment 4 - Citadel of Penance interior
Section titled “Map Fragment 4 - Citadel of Penance interior”Location: Inside Citadel of Penance, deeper than the main entrance beacon, around the market-stall interior section.
How to reach it:

- Activate/anchor at the entrance-side beacon.
- Push inward through interior market-stall lanes.
- Follow the crow marker to the Ruk statue and collect.

- Move into the western swamp branch instead of diving into the deepest danger pockets first.
- Look for the ruin landmark and nearby raised bluff.
- Use the crow marker to confirm statue position, then collect.

What to watch for: Several guides describe this as a safer edge-of-swamp position compared with deeper hostile pockets.
Mammon Map Fragment locations
Section titled “Mammon Map Fragment locations”Map Fragment 6 - Outskirts of Mammon bluff near catapult path

How to reach it:
- Reach High Lord’s Courtyard Beacon.
- Track the nearby crow marker from the beacon zone.

- Take the cliffside connection toward mining/construction side paths.
- Follow crow marker alignment along the outer route.
- Collect at the statue.
Requirement: Castigator’s Keep branch access.
What to watch for: Multiple approach directions exist in community routes; stay beacon-anchored to avoid long backtracking.
Map Fragment 10 - Gate of Infinity approach
Section titled “Map Fragment 10 - Gate of Infinity approach”Location: On the route toward Gate of Infinity after moving through Castigator’s Keep upper sections.
How to reach it:
- From Castigator’s Keep progression, move through courtyard toward the lift.
- Take the lift to upper sections.
- Continue through the Starved Harridan-side section.
- Follow the next route toward Gate of Infinity; Ruk’s statue is on this approach.
Requirement: Upper-section traversal from keep route.
What to watch for: This is one of the clearer examples where vertical traversal (lift) is part of the fragment path.
Map Fragment 11 - Sester’s Abbey / Revenant Graves south side
Section titled “Map Fragment 11 - Sester’s Abbey / Revenant Graves south side”Location: Sester’s Abbey area, south of Revenant Graves in Mammon’s southeastern branch.

- Use the Bone Gate/traversal path toward southeastern lanes.
- Move south of Revenant Graves area.
- Track the crow marker to Ruk’s statue and collect.
Requirement: Access to the southeast branch and traversal route.
What to watch for: If this is your final missing fragment, check for any remaining crow icon in the southeast and confirm you are not on an upper/lower split of the same zone.
Are any Map Fragments missable?
Section titled “Are any Map Fragments missable?”Current launch-window sources used for this page do not provide reliable evidence that any map fragment is permanently missable in a normal playthrough.
What can be confirmed:
- fragments are tied to marked crow locations,
- trophy/achievement guidance references collecting all 11 in one save,
- routes can be temporarily inaccessible until progression/traversal unlocks.
What is not safely confirmed from current evidence:
- a guaranteed “none are missable under all conditions” developer statement,
- a hard lock case specific to map fragments after story completion.
Practical takeaway: treat fragments as progression-gated, not proven permanently missable in currently available evidence.
Do you need all Map Fragments, and should you collect them early?
Section titled “Do you need all Map Fragments, and should you collect them early?”- Need all 11 for progression? not strictly required for normal story progression according to current guide coverage.
- Need all 11 for Sat Nav? yes, the all-fragments trophy/achievement condition is consistently reported as 11.
- Collect early? usually yes, because revealed routes and Corrupt Gate visibility reduce navigation friction.
If you are still setting up your combat comfort, combine early fragment routing with the Slayer Seal and difficulty guide and base gameplay overview so route pressure is easier to manage.
Source confidence and conflict handling
Section titled “Source confidence and conflict handling”This page is built from launch / Advanced Access window sources only, with cross-checking for:
- total fragment count,
- core reveal mechanic,
- first-fragment route steps,
- region split and named landmark anchors.
A conflict did appear in one Aug 18 article headline summary line (“four in Fainweald, seven in Mammon”), while the same article body and other sources list 11 as 5 + 6. This page uses 5 + 6 because that distribution is consistent across cross-checked launch sources and trophy reporting.
