The Veteran’s Battle Axe is found at the end of King’s Crypt in the Blackridge area of Fainweald. A practical starting point is Blackridge Pass Beacon. The crypt’s main challenge is its trap-filled route: pressure plates, bear traps, explosive barrels, and exploding enemies.
Where is the Veteran’s Battle Axe?
Section titled “Where is the Veteran’s Battle Axe?”The Veteran’s Battle Axe is a primary weapon found in King’s Crypt.
King’s Crypt is in the wider Blackridge / Fainweald route near the Shattered Beacon and Proxima area. Start from Blackridge Pass Beacon and look for the crypt’s concealed approach below a ledge.
The weapon is obtained at the end of the dungeon from the final reward area.
How to find the King’s Crypt entrance
Section titled “How to find the King’s Crypt entrance”Use Blackridge Pass Beacon as your route anchor.
From there, search the nearby Blackridge route for an entrance that sits below a ledge rather than directly on the main path. The approach is easy to miss, so check the lower terrain instead of assuming the crypt has a prominent doorway on the route above.
Once you find the concealed descent, continue into King’s Crypt.
If you are already exploring this part of Fainweald for another objective, the Proxima guide is a useful nearby reference.
King’s Crypt walkthrough
Section titled “King’s Crypt walkthrough”King’s Crypt is primarily a trap-and-hazard dungeon.
The supported hazards include:
- pressure plates
- bear traps
- oil and explosive barrels
- exploding enemies
The safest approach is to slow down when entering a new section and check the floor and nearby hazards before committing to a path.
A sidearm is useful because some hazards can be triggered from range. When a trap or explosive object can be activated before you walk into it, doing so gives you more control over the route.
Keep moving through the crypt until you reach its final reward area.
How to survive the traps
Section titled “How to survive the traps”Pressure plates
Section titled “Pressure plates”Watch the floor before crossing narrow passages or entering a new room. If you identify a pressure plate, avoid stepping on it blindly.
When possible, use a sidearm to trigger a hazard from a safer distance before moving forward.
Bear traps
Section titled “Bear traps”Bear traps are another reason to avoid rushing through King’s Crypt. Scan the floor around chokepoints and reward areas before moving through them.
Explosive barrels and oil
Section titled “Explosive barrels and oil”Treat groups of barrels and oil-covered areas as hazards rather than ordinary scenery. If you can activate an explosive setup safely from range, do that before moving close.
Exploding enemies
Section titled “Exploding enemies”Keep space between yourself and exploding enemies when the route gives you room. A sidearm can help you deal with them without committing to close range beside other hazards.
Where to pick up the Veteran’s Battle Axe
Section titled “Where to pick up the Veteran’s Battle Axe”The Veteran’s Battle Axe is obtained at the end of King’s Crypt.
Current route descriptions vary slightly in how they describe the final object—some call it a corpse, a headless corpse, or a sarcophagus—so the useful instruction is simpler:
Reach the final crypt area and loot the Veteran’s Battle Axe there.
One supported route shows the interaction on a headless body in the final crypt room.
The available route evidence does not establish a mandatory boss kill as the requirement for obtaining the weapon.
Is the Veteran’s Battle Axe worth getting early?
Section titled “Is the Veteran’s Battle Axe worth getting early?”The strongest reason to make the trip early is route convenience.
If you are already moving through Blackridge Pass or the nearby Proxima / Shattered Beacon area, King’s Crypt gives you another primary-weapon pickup on the same broader exploration route.
That does not make the Veteran’s Battle Axe objectively better than the game’s other early weapons. Use the Weapons guide to compare the site’s documented weapon routes, and the Tarforge guide when you are ready to unlock primary weapon enhancement.
