How do you unlock fast travel in Mortal Shell 2?
Section titled “How do you unlock fast travel in Mortal Shell 2?”Mortal Shell II has two travel layers.
Early on, Beacons can send you back to Marrow Keep, and Marrow Keep’s upper platform can send you out to Beacons you have already reached. That works, but it makes the hub a required middle stop.
The faster system is Mether’s Breath. Once it is available in a Beacon menu, you can travel directly between discovered Beacons without going through Marrow Keep first.
The current launch-build progression is:
- Discover and rest at Beacons as you explore.
- Cleanse eligible corrupted Beacons when the Beacon menu offers that option.
- Collect Ova from those cleanse routes.
- Return to Marrow Keep and use the Gloom Siphon / Ovum Siphon progression.
- Unlock Mether’s Breath.
- Use Mether’s Breath from a Beacon menu to travel to discovered Beacons.
After siphoning enough Ova at the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep, Mether’s Breath should appear in your Beacon menu. Current launch guides disagree on the exact threshold: GamesRadar reports 4 returned Ova, while GameSpot and AllThingsHow describe roughly five additional Ova or 7–8 total depending on starting stock; LootMap reports a nearby five-to-six-Ova range. This page therefore does not treat any one number as a fixed rule. Use the Siphon unlock prompt and the Mether’s Breath option in your own Beacon menu as the checkpoint.
What is Mether’s Breath?
Section titled “What is Mether’s Breath?”Mether’s Breath is the exploration upgrade that turns your Beacon network into direct fast travel.
It is also tied to clearing certain corruption barriers, so it matters even if you are not trying to teleport. If a route is blocked by corruption, keep pushing eligible Beacon cleanses and Marrow Keep Siphon progression, then return once Mether’s Breath is active.
GamesRadar’s launch guide says Mether’s Breath lets you move to a discovered Beacon once you have revitalized and rested there; the Beacon does not need to be cleansed first for travel. AltChar separately describes the direct Beacon menu travel after Mether’s Breath as the full fast travel system.
How do Beacons work?
Section titled “How do Beacons work?”Beacons are checkpoints, rest points, progression hooks, and fast-travel destinations. They are not all identical.
Discovering or reviving a Beacon
Section titled “Discovering or reviving a Beacon”When you find a Beacon, interact with it and rest there so it becomes part of your active route network. After Mether’s Breath unlocks, these discovered Beacons are the destinations that matter.
Cleansing a Beacon
Section titled “Cleansing a Beacon”Some Beacons are corrupted and offer a cleanse option. Current launch sources describe cleansing as entering a mini dungeon or route, fighting through enemies and sometimes minibosses, then claiming Ova at the end.
Finding / activating a Beacon and cleansing a Beacon are not necessarily the same thing. Treat “I can rest here” and “this Beacon has a cleanse dungeon” as two separate checks.
Why some Beacons cannot be cleansed
Section titled “Why some Beacons cannot be cleansed”Not every Beacon has an available cleanse route. PowerPyx’s launch Beacon list notes that some Beacons are already cleansed when found, and its trophy note separates total Beacons from cleanse-count tracking. If your Beacon menu does not show a cleanse option, it may simply be a checkpoint / travel node rather than a cleanse objective.
Named overworld Beacon route anchors
Section titled “Named overworld Beacon route anchors”The table below is intentionally conservative. It covers useful overworld route anchors supported by current launch lists and local route context; it is not the complete 49-entry launch checklist. Dungeon Beacons are listed separately below because many are inside Corrupted Gate regions rather than on the overworld marker layer.
| Beacon | Region / nearby landmark | What it is useful for | Cleanse available? | Evidence status |

Full launch checklist: 49 named Beacons, 46 cleanseable
Section titled “Full launch checklist: 49 named Beacons, 46 cleanseable”The current launch checklist reports 49 named Beacons in total. Marrow Keep, Widow’s Overlook, and Outskirts of Mammon are listed as pre-cleansed, leaving 46 cleanseable Beacons. LootMap separately reports 19 overworld map markers—nine in Fainweald, four around the Marrow Keep belt, and six in Mammon—because dungeon interiors add their own Beacon entries. Do not use 19 as the total, and do not assume every interior Beacon appears on the overworld map.
Marrow Keep and Fainweald
Section titled “Marrow Keep and Fainweald”Marrow Keep (pre-cleansed), Stonebled Gate, Mushroom Village Gate, Nochtean Gate, Mushroom Village, Outskirts of Nochte, Blackridge Pass, Widow’s Overlook (pre-cleansed), Gloomshade Grove, Citadel of Penance, and One Legged Wolf.
Ruins of Mammon
Section titled “Ruins of Mammon”Outskirts of Mammon (pre-cleansed), Sester’s Gate, Gate of Infinity, Castigator’s Keep, Abbey Entrance, Abandoned Outpost, Gate of Mammon, The Silent Steps, and High Lord’s Courtyard.
Corrupted Gate dungeon regions
Section titled “Corrupted Gate dungeon regions”Seeping Mire, Sunken Village, and Magdalena’s Glade in Glutted Mire; Hangman’s Scaffold, Executioner’s Pulpit, Slumwater Drain, and Captive’s End in Prisoners’ Domain; Pulsing Caves, Sanguine Shoreline, and Child’s Feeding Grounds in Sanguine Caverns; Ovate’s Chamber, Winterglass Lake, and Conqueror’s Hoard in Conquered Temple; Citadel Annex, Citadel Atrium, and Scholar-Prince’s Chamber in Faded Citadel; and Nameless Pass, Ossinite Falls, and Hexapod’s Burrow in Withered Shoals.
The Unfound Path and Disciple’s Pass
Section titled “The Unfound Path and Disciple’s Pass”The Hidden Nave, Receiving Hall, Faithful’s Shelter, Brether’s Court, Obsidian Vault, Bridge of Procession, Empty Cradle, Chamber of the Forsaken, Disciple’s Grotto, and Village Outskirts.
The list is a launch-build checklist from current guides, not an official numbered data file. Spelling and travel-menu order can differ between sources, so use the region and landmark with the name.
Post-boss Beacon sweep
Section titled “Post-boss Beacon sweep”Several major Corrupted Gate dungeons expose their final Beacon only after the main boss is defeated. Current launch reports describe six such post-boss Beacons and a 26 Ova payout for each; treat both the count and payout as source-reported, then sweep the arena and exit route before leaving. This is the most useful check when a completion tracker is one Beacon short.
The current launch checklist reports no permanently missable Beacon: skipped entries can be cleaned during post-final-boss free roam before choosing New Game+. That boundary should not be confused with the Open Beta’s separate seven-Beacon objective.
Early-game Beacon route
Section titled “Early-game Beacon route”For a practical first route, think in objectives rather than a perfect checklist:
- Reach Marrow Keep after the Prologue.
- Push into Fainweald and activate Widow’s Overlook.
- Use Widow’s Overlook as an early anchor for nearby combat, farming, map visibility, and the Gloombound Flame route.
- Continue toward Blackridge Pass and the Mushroom Village side when your build can handle the pressure.
- Cleanse eligible Beacons when the menu offers it, then return Ova to Marrow Keep.
- Once Mether’s Breath appears, revisit corruption gates and open your direct Beacon network.
If you are lost, prioritize a newly discovered Beacon over a long side detour. A rested Beacon is future travel infrastructure even before direct fast travel unlocks.
Why can’t I fast travel yet?
Section titled “Why can’t I fast travel yet?”Check these first:
- You may only have the early Marrow Keep platform method, not Mether’s Breath yet.
- You may have found Beacons but not rested at them.
- You may be carrying Ova but have not returned it through Marrow Keep’s Siphon progression.
- You may be expecting every Beacon to have a cleanse route; some do not.
- You may be trying to travel to a route blocked by corruption before Mether’s Breath has opened the relevant path.
Do not farm toward a fixed Ova number just because one guide says so. Current launch reports conflict, so return to the Siphon after meaningful Ova progress and check whether the Beacon menu has changed.
Is the Open Beta 7-Beacon list still correct?
Section titled “Is the Open Beta 7-Beacon list still correct?”No, not as a full-launch list.
The Open Beta had its own limited Beacon objective, and older beta routes may still be useful as rough early-region orientation. But the launch world is larger, launch Beacon lists include many more named Beacons, and some beta-era instructions describe preview-only routing.
Some beta Beacon names may still exist in the final build. That does not mean the beta’s 7-Beacon objective is the full launch count, and it should not be mixed into the confirmed launch table as if it were complete.
Patch and version notes
Section titled “Patch and version notes”Balance Patch 1 changed the economy, enemy and boss balance, weapons, seals, Tarstones, and general stability, but its published notes do not change the Beacon count, cleanse rule, or Mether’s Breath prerequisite. Hotfix 2.0 fixed a UI lock when equipping the Slayer Seal from a Beacon menu and added stability fixes; it does not document a new Beacon route. If a current menu behaves differently from an older video, check the installed patch before treating the video as authoritative.
For the Ova progression loop, see the Ova guide. For the Unfound Path Beacon branches, see the Monolith guide, Orrem guide, and Malborn Offspring guide. The cleansing achievements are grouped in the trophies guide.
How do I fast travel in Mortal Shell 2?
Section titled “How do I fast travel in Mortal Shell 2?”Early travel goes through Marrow Keep. Direct Beacon-to-Beacon fast travel unlocks through Mether’s Breath after cleansing eligible Beacons, collecting Ova, and progressing the Marrow Keep Siphon.
What is Mether’s Breath?
Section titled “What is Mether’s Breath?”Mether’s Breath is the upgrade that adds direct Beacon menu fast travel and helps open corruption-blocked routes.
Why can’t I fast travel between Beacons?
Section titled “Why can’t I fast travel between Beacons?”You probably have not unlocked Mether’s Breath yet, have not rested at the destination Beacon, or have not advanced the Ova / Siphon progression enough.
Do I need to cleanse every Beacon?
Section titled “Do I need to cleanse every Beacon?”No for basic travel. GamesRadar reports that discovered and rested Beacons can become fast-travel destinations with Mether’s Breath even if they were not cleansed. Cleansing is still important for Ova progression and completion goals.
How many Beacons are in Mortal Shell 2?
Section titled “How many Beacons are in Mortal Shell 2?”Current launch checklists report 49 named Beacons, of which 46 are cleanseable; the separate overworld map layer reports 19 outdoor markers because dungeon interiors add their own entries. Do not use the Open Beta’s 7-Beacon objective as the launch total.
Do the Open Beta Beacon locations carry over to the full game?
Section titled “Do the Open Beta Beacon locations carry over to the full game?”Some names and early-region landmarks may still exist, but the beta list is not a complete full-game route. Use launch-build guides for launch routing.
