Malborn Offspring is the Faithful’s Shelter guardian in The Unfound Path. From the Faithful’s Shelter Beacon, go up the nearby stairs, take the right-hand route across the narrow bridge, and climb the long staircase to the circular arena. The reliable fight loop is: survive the entire delayed cleaving string, dodge every red-circle unblockable, build the boss’s Stagger gauge, then use the short break window for damage. When the first health bar empties, keep attacking during the slow resurrection; the second phase adds lightning-infused attacks and electric projectiles.

The checked sources disagree about the exact Ova threshold for entering The Unfound Path, the exact Gloom payout, and the cadence of some red-circle attacks. Those details are marked as uncertain below instead of being presented as fixed facts.

Malborn Offspring is in the Faithful’s Shelter segment of The Unfound Path. This is the late-campaign dungeon with three tendril branches:

  • Faithful’s Shelter — Malborn Offspring
  • Bridge of Procession — Orrem, the Discarded Golem / the Reclaimed
  • Obsidian Vault — The Monolith

Use the following route once The Unfound Path is available:

  1. Enter the Unfound Path through its late-campaign route.
  2. Reach and cleanse the Faithful’s Shelter Beacon if you can. It is the useful nearby checkpoint for the attempt.
  3. From the Beacon, go up the nearby stairs.
  4. Take the route to the right and cross the narrow stone bridge over the gap.
  5. Follow the far-side path and climb the long stone staircase into the circular boss arena.

Entry requirement: what is confirmed and what is not

Section titled “Entry requirement: what is confirmed and what is not”

The checked guides agree that The Unfound Path is opened through Ova earned from the six Corrupted Gate dungeons in Fainweald and Mammon. They do not agree on one exact number:

  • One route guide describes the requirement generically as gathering enough Ova.
  • Another current boss index says five gate victories provide enough to reach the final region.
  • A separate route page reports a threshold above 168, which does not reconcile cleanly with the other counts.

Treat the exact threshold as uncertain and build/version-sensitive. Use the Ova guide for the wider progression loop, but do not assume that Malborn Offspring requires a particular fixed total unless your current game displays it.

This is an endgame guardian with long strings and a more aggressive second phase. Prepare for consistency rather than a single high-damage burst:

  • Top off Health and Resolve at the Beacon.
  • Keep enough stamina to dodge the late hit in a delayed string.
  • Use the weapon and upgrades you can control reliably; no checked source establishes a mandatory weapon, weapon level, or Tarstone.
  • Review Weapons and Tarstones for general loadout choices.
  • Consider Proxima if her relevant Ampereon Bond upgrades provide electricity immunity. This is a conditional recommendation, not a requirement.
  • Sester Genessa is another practical option because her summoned doubles can draw attention and create safer windows. The checked boss guides list no spectral Shell summon for this arena, so do not save a Glimpse expecting a guaranteed boss-room ally.

Malborn Offspring’s first phase is hard to memorize because the timing changes inside each attack sequence. The checked guides commonly describe five- or six-hit cleaving chains with uneven animation speeds and delays.

Use this rhythm:

Watch the actual swing → survive the complete string → take a short punish → reset.

Do not count a fixed beat. A pause after one swing is not proof that the chain has ended. Wait for the last delayed hit and the visible recovery before committing to more than one or two attacks.

When the red warning circle appears, treat the attack as unblockable and dodge it. Do not convert a source-specific cadence into a memorized rule: AllThingsHow describes a red-circle hit on every third swing in some sequences, while other checked sources confirm the red-circle threat without establishing that it always occurs on the third hit.

The safe response is visual:

  1. Stop your planned punish when the red warning appears.
  2. Dodge out of the attack rather than trying to parry it.
  3. Re-establish spacing and wait for the rest of the sequence.

Measured hits build Malborn Offspring’s Stagger gauge. Once the gauge breaks, the boss is vulnerable for a short time. Use your heaviest reliable damage during that break, then stop before the boss resumes its delayed strings.

The practical mistake is spending the whole opening on a long combo and getting caught by the next swing. The goal is a repeatable Stagger cycle, not maximum hits after every individual dodge.

Emptying the first health bar starts a slow resurrection rather than ending the fight. This is the safest large damage window in the encounter:

  • Continue attacking while the boss is rising.
  • Use the available time to chip the next health bar.
  • Keep enough stamina to dodge when the second phase actually begins.

Phase 2: lightning and electric projectiles

Section titled “Phase 2: lightning and electric projectiles”

In phase two, Malborn Offspring’s weapon and attacks gain electrical effects. The checked reports describe faster, stronger pressure plus ranged electric bolts or projectiles. Red-circle unblockables remain part of the pattern.

The plan does not change, but the margins do:

  • Dodge the complete string instead of trying to trade through it.
  • Move when the electric projectile is launched; do not stand still at range.
  • Keep feeding the Stagger gauge with short, safe punishes.
  • Spend the break window decisively, then reset immediately.
  • If using Proxima, describe electricity immunity as dependent on the relevant Bond upgrades rather than automatic.

Tell or attack Response Punish window
Delayed cleaving chain Watch the actual swing and survive the full sequence; do not count a fixed rhythm After the final delayed hit and recovery
Red-circle strike Dodge; treat it as unblockable Re-engage after it resolves
Broken Stagger gauge Commit to reliable damage during the short stun Full break window, then reset
Slow resurrection Keep attacking while the boss rises Transition damage before phase two resumes
Lightning-infused string Preserve stamina and dodge the complete chain One or two hits after recovery
Electric projectile Move laterally or out of its line Return after the projectile sequence

The names in this table are descriptive labels for a readable guide, not a claim that each is an in-game attack name. No checked source provides reliable frame data, a complete attack list, or a universal phase-health percentage.

The cross-checked primary reward is the Offspring Trophy. GameSpot and the current Mortal Shell II boss index report that it can be traded for 5,000 coins.

The Gloom payout is less certain. Gamer Guides lists 63,333 Gloom, while the boss-fight guides describe only a large batch. Treat 63,333 as source-reported and potentially version- or run-sensitive rather than a guaranteed number.

AllThingsHow reports the Giga Chad achievement for the kill. No checked source identifies a Malborn-specific pre-kill interaction, so there is no verified missable action comparable to the Nameless Captive’s separate Peter’s Perfect Parry requirement.

Defeating the boss does not by itself finish the Faithful’s Shelter branch. Go to the back of the arena and interact with the large fleshy ribcage/tendril structure to extract the gland. AllThingsHow reports a short cutscene and a Gloom Retrieved prompt after this interaction.

Then:

  1. Confirm the Faithful’s Shelter tendril has been removed.
  2. Clear Orrem and The Monolith if their tendrils are still active; see the Orrem guide for the Bridge of Procession branch.
  3. Once all three tendrils are gone, the central platform in The Unfound Path opens.
  4. The platform leads to Zmey the Unbidden.

One checked passage spells the post-fight return point as “Chamof of the Forsaken,” but that name is not independently reconciled with the rest of the route naming. This guide therefore describes the return point rather than asserting a normalized spelling.

Balance Patch 1 lists direct changes for The Lost Child and The Monolith, plus economy, weapon, Tarstone, Seal, and general fixes. The checked developer notes do not list a direct Malborn Offspring health, damage, animation, lightning, or reward change.

Hotfix 2.0 lists crash, stability, performance, Slayer Seal menu, and riposte weapon-stealing fixes. It also does not list a Malborn-specific balance change.

The safe conclusion is no direct Malborn adjustment was found in the checked notes, not that the fight can never vary between builds or platforms.

  • Attacking after the first pause: the string may continue with a delayed hit. Wait for the complete sequence.
  • Trying to parry the red circle: dodge the warning instead.
  • Counting every third swing as a guaranteed rule: that cadence is source-specific and applies only to some reported strings.
  • Healing or spending all stamina during the resurrection: use the transition for damage, but be ready for phase two.
  • Chasing damage during the lightning phase: the projectiles and faster strings reward short punishes and resets.
  • Assuming a fixed Ova threshold or Gloom payout: both figures have conflicting or incomplete source support.
