Balance Patch 1 moves Shell-map reveals from Glimpses to Gloom, refunds Glimpses previously spent on those map reveals in Blackmarrow, cuts Tarforge weapon smelting cost by 75%, rebalances several enemies and bosses, and buffs multiple weapons and Tarstones. The official Balance Patch 1 notes are the source for the changes below.

Update Officially documented status What it changed
Hotfix 2.0 — August 18, 2026 Developer release notes published Crash, stability, and performance fixes; Beacon-menu Slayer Seal UI lock fix; riposte enemy-weapon stealing fix. See the official Hotfix 2.0 notes.
Balance Patch 1 — August 20, 2026 Live on PC in the developer post; PS5 and Xbox Series were announced as coming shortly Economy, enemy/boss, weapon, Seal, Tarstone, and miscellaneous fixes listed on this page.
Larger future patch Planned, no date confirmed Cold Symmetry mentioned future work around Night Mode, Tarstones, PP Items, and more. Treat this as planned scope, not a release schedule.

The official Balance Patch 1 post does not provide a current per-platform installation receipt. This page therefore treats PC as confirmed by the post and leaves PS5/Xbox Series rollout unconfirmed in this record rather than converting the announcement into a live-status claim.

What should you do first after Balance Patch 1?

Section titled “What should you do first after Balance Patch 1?”

There are three immediate changes worth checking:

  1. Collect your refunded Glimpses in Blackmarrow. If you spent Glimpses on Shell-map reveals before the patch, that spending is now refunded at the Shell Keeper’s alcove.
  2. Recheck the Tarforge if you want to change upgrades. Smelt Equipment now costs 75% less Gloom.
  3. Revisit weapons affected by the patch. Great Martyr’s Blade and Troubadour’s Lute received direct damage buffs, while Axatana, Black Needle, and Clockwork Scythe received improved light-attack tracking.

For the resource change itself, see the Mortal Shell 2 Glimpses guide. For the upgrade station, use the Tarforge guide.

The refund applies specifically to Glimpses previously spent on Shell-map reveals.

Go to the Shell Keeper’s alcove in Blackmarrow to collect the refunded Glimpses. After Balance Patch 1, Shell-map reveals use Gloom instead of Glimpses, so future map reveals no longer consume this part of your Glimpse supply.

If you are still looking for individual Shell routes, use the Shells guide rather than spending time retracing already documented paths.

Economy changes: Gloom, Gold and Tarforge smelting

Section titled “Economy changes: Gloom, Gold and Tarforge smelting”

Balance Patch 1 changes three parts of the launch economy.

Shell-map reveals now use Gloom instead of Glimpses. Glimpses previously spent on those map reveals are refunded in Blackmarrow.

Enemy Gold drops were increased globally, and Mammon enemies now drop twice as much Gold.

The Gloom cost of Smelt Equipment at the Tarforge was reduced by 75%.

That makes the Foundry Stone’s Smelt Equipment function more practical when you want to recover weapon or sidearm upgrade materials. The Tarforge guide covers the five parts that unlock and extend the station.

If you need a separate route for ordinary Gloom income, use the Gloom farming guide.

Two named bosses received direct damage or health reductions.

  • Base Damage reduced by 10%
  • Maximum Health reduced by 15%
  • Base Damage reduced by 19%
  • Maximum Health reduced by 10%
  • Some attack timings were adjusted

Several regular enemies also received health reductions:

  • Mace Cultist: HP reduced by 21.1%
  • Caerinid Spider: HP reduced by 33.3%
  • Infested Stalker: HP reduced by 52.4%
  • Rusted Knave: HP reduced by 20.8%

Rusted Knave also received a fix for its overhead hit detection.

The official notes also say that enemies featured in the beta were restored to their beta HP values, except the Caerinid Spider in Magdalena’s area. The named percentages above are the explicit listed changes; the broader beta-HP statement should not be read as a promise that every enemy has the same reduction or that every launch behavior matches the beta.

Several weapons and sidearms were changed in Balance Patch 1.

  • Great Martyr’s Blade: attack damage increased by 20%
  • Troubadour’s Lute: attack damage increased by 100%
  • Caged Hystrix: minimum Resolve requirement to fire removed
  • Triarch Repeater: minimum Resolve requirement to fire removed
  • Axatana: light-attack tracking improved
  • Black Needle: light-attack tracking improved
  • Clockwork Scythe: light-attack tracking improved

Use the Weapons guide for the current weapon index and the Sidearms guide for the Sidearm roster. The Great Martyr’s Blade guide and Axatana guide cover their individual acquisition routes.

Five Tarstones were buffed:

  • Parasitic Stone
  • Grudge Stone
  • Bulwark Stone
  • Clerik’s Stone
  • Squall Stone

The supplied patch information confirms the buffs but does not provide exact percentages, so this page does not assign numbers to them.

Guard can also now be used while walking.

Balance Patch 1 includes miscellaneous crash fixes, bug fixes, and performance improvements.

That does not mean every crash scenario is resolved. If the game is still crashing after the patch, use the existing PC crash guide for the site’s current troubleshooting steps.

Cold Symmetry has said future updates are planned around areas including:

  • Night Mode
  • Tarstones
  • PP Items
  • a larger future patch

No release date or final feature list is confirmed for those updates. They are planned, not scheduled.
