The Lost Child is the major boss at the end of the Sanguine Caverns route in Fainweald. Use Sanguine Shoreline Beacon as your route anchor, then prepare for two especially dangerous attacks: the Digest & Excrete grab and Belching Breath ranged pressure. Balance Patch 1 reduced the boss’s Base Damage by 10% and Maximum Health by 15%, but careful positioning is still the safest way through the fight.
Where is The Lost Child?
Section titled “Where is The Lost Child?”The Lost Child is at the end of Sanguine Caverns / Sanguine Caverns Gate in Fainweald.
Use Sanguine Shoreline Beacon as the clearest route anchor. From the wider Tarblighted Stoner area, continue into the cavern route until you reach the boss arena.
If your wider Fainweald progression still runs through Stonebled Gate, the Lucian boss guide covers that separate route.
How to reach Sanguine Caverns
Section titled “How to reach Sanguine Caverns”Start from Sanguine Shoreline Beacon and continue through the route connected to the Tarblighted Stoner area.
Follow the cavern progression into Sanguine Caverns and toward the final arena.
For the wider travel network, see the Beacons and fast travel guide.
What to know before entering the arena
Section titled “What to know before entering the arena”The Lost Child pressures both close and ranged positions.
The most important named threats are:
- Digest & Excrete — the dangerous grab / swallow attack
- Belching Breath — a ranged regurgitation / projectile attack
The boss also uses body / leap slams, arm swipes, and suction / vacuum behavior.
A Tiel Shell summon is supported for this boss route. The Tiel guide covers Tiel’s own unlock route.
How to avoid Digest & Excrete
Section titled “How to avoid Digest & Excrete”Digest & Excrete is the attack that makes staying directly in front of The Lost Child especially risky.
Use these positioning rules:
- avoid lingering directly in front of the boss
- work toward the flank or rear when possible
- move laterally / diagonally when the boss begins pressuring your position
- after a safe punish window, use short attacks rather than committing to a long melee string
The goal is not to memorize an invented frame-perfect dodge. Keep yourself out of the boss’s front line so the grab has fewer chances to catch you while you are locked into offense.
How to avoid Belching Breath and the ranged attacks
Section titled “How to avoid Belching Breath and the ranged attacks”Belching Breath gives The Lost Child pressure at range as well.
Against the projectile attack:
- move laterally or diagonally
- keep enough space to see the ranged pressure develop
- reposition toward the flank instead of retreating in a straight line indefinitely
- wait for a safe opening before moving back into melee range
Because the boss can threaten both close and distant positions, simply backing away is not a complete solution.
Best positioning for The Lost Child fight
Section titled “Best positioning for The Lost Child fight”The safest general plan is to spend as little time as possible directly in front of the boss.
Prioritize:
- flank / rear positioning
- short punish windows
- lateral or diagonal movement when pressure starts
- disengaging before a long combo leaves you stuck in front of the boss
The same positioning also helps against arm swipes, body / leap slams, and the boss’s suction behavior.
What Balance Patch 1 changed
Section titled “What Balance Patch 1 changed”Balance Patch 1 changed The Lost Child directly:
- Base Damage reduced by 10%
- Maximum Health reduced by 15%
Those are the confirmed boss-specific Patch 1 changes used by this guide.
Lost Child rewards and what to do after the fight
Section titled “Lost Child rewards and what to do after the fight”Defeating The Lost Child rewards the Lost Clotstone.
The Lost Clotstone is associated with the progression routes for the Obsidian Hammer and Veteran’s Battle Axe.
The boss route also leads into Child’s Feeding Grounds Beacon / Ova progression.
After completing the Beacon progression there, return to the dungeon / innermost chamber. A Blackmarrow Key can then be collected from the newly accessible area behind the former Ova location.
For the wider Shade-key system, see the Blackmarrow Keys guide.
