The Shrine of Sorrows is a Night Mode-only dungeon near Mushroom Village. Start from Mushroom Village Beacon, accept the invitation at the cocoon-like entrance, collect the Moonlight, Sunlight, and Starlight Sonatas, solve the mounted-head / frozen-world puzzle, then use the resulting Alluring Mushrooms to reach the basement sequence. Completing the route rewards a Blackmarrow Key and Tooth of Nochte.
How to unlock the Shrine of Sorrows
Section titled “How to unlock the Shrine of Sorrows”Shrine of Sorrows is only available while Night Mode is active.
If you reach the area during the day, the location gives you a clue that the secret is hidden by daylight rather than opening the dungeon route.
Use the Gloombound Flame and Night Mode guide if you have not enabled Night Mode yet.

Optional: how to open the three-offering Dorsalite chest
Section titled “Optional: how to open the three-offering Dorsalite chest”Before entering the house, you can open an optional chest by activating three candle offerings around the exterior area.
Look for them:
- near the broken shed beside the chest
- farther along the path past the shed
- near the well
Activate all three offerings, then return to the chest to collect Dorsalite.
This chest is optional and is separate from the three-Sonata progression inside the house.
Where to get the Tempered Iron Key
Section titled “Where to get the Tempered Iron Key”Inside the house, find the seated figure and read the nearby note.
Then interact with the cauldron to obtain the Tempered Iron Key.
Use that key on the first locked room.
Where to find Moonlight and Sunlight Sonata
Section titled “Where to find Moonlight and Sunlight Sonata”The first two books are inside the house.
- Moonlight Sonata — in the first room opened with the Tempered Iron Key, on the corpse / table area.
- Sunlight Sonata — in the second room.
Collect both before moving on to the mounted-head puzzle for the third book.
How to solve the head puzzle and get Starlight Sonata
Section titled “How to solve the head puzzle and get Starlight Sonata”After the banging / headless-corpse event, leave the house and head toward the tree.
Read the note associated with the mounted head.
The puzzle uses repeated full rotations:
- Re-check the mounted head.
- Make a full 360-degree turn.
- Re-check the head again.
- Repeat until the environment shifts into the frozen version of the area.
- Find Starlight Sonata near the gravestone.
- Repeat the head / rotation sequence to return.
Do not rely on a fixed universal spin count. The practical rule is to keep repeating the full-turn and head-check sequence until the environment changes.
What to do with all three Sonatas
Section titled “What to do with all three Sonatas”Return to the house with:
- Moonlight Sonata
- Sunlight Sonata
- Starlight Sonata
Place all three into the box.
This rewards Alluring Mushrooms.
Take the Alluring Mushrooms to the cauldron, place them inside, and drink the resulting concoction.
You are moved outside into a darker transformed version of the area.
Where to find the Basement Key
Section titled “Where to find the Basement Key”After drinking the mushroom concoction, return to the house.
The Basement Key is now available on the table.
Take it, unlock the basement, and descend.
The basement contains the final witches’ ritual sequence that completes the Shrine of Sorrows route.
