The Salvaged Trebuchaxe is in the final room of Ravaged Hideout in Fainweald. Start from Gloomshade Grove Beacon, defeat the nearby Bloodcursed Lithopod, loot the Citadel Gate Lever, and then follow the Hideout route to the slumped body holding the sidearm. The exact bearing varies between current route descriptions, so use the Beacon, water, Citadel hills, and Lithopod as landmarks instead of coordinates.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”You need:
- Access to Gloomshade Grove Beacon.
- A route to the water or ravine below the hills outside the Citadel of Penance.
- The ability to defeat the Bloodcursed Lithopod and loot its drop.
No checked source requires a named key, NPC hand-in, exact level, Shell, or Citadel boss kill for the Trebuchaxe. Bring your normal melee weapon, healing, and enough resources for the Lithopod and the Hideout approach; those are practical preparations, not documented item gates.
Where to find the Salvaged Trebuchaxe
Section titled “Where to find the Salvaged Trebuchaxe”The pickup is in Ravaged Hideout, a short dungeon near the lake or ravine at the base of the Citadel of Penance hills. Sources variously describe the Hideout as south or southeast of Gloomshade Grove Beacon, or as being below the Citadel-side hills. Those descriptions point to the same local cluster; they are not a reliable coordinate system.
The Hideout is tied to the Bloodcursed Lithopod. Defeating that named boss opens access to the nearby dungeon and drops the Citadel Gate Lever. The Lever is not the weapon: the Trebuchaxe is inside the Hideout at the end of the route.
Route from Gloomshade Grove Beacon
Section titled “Route from Gloomshade Grove Beacon”- Travel to or activate Gloomshade Grove Beacon. If Beacon interactions or direct travel are unclear, see the Beacons and fast travel guide.
- Head south or southeast toward the visible water or ravine below the Citadel of Penance hills. Follow the landforms and boardwalks rather than a fixed compass instruction.
- Find the Bloodcursed Lithopod near the water. Clear nearby small enemies first if they are distracting you, then focus on the named boss.
- Loot the Citadel Gate Lever after the Lithopod dies. The Lever opens the nearby Ravaged Hideout route and can also be installed at the Citadel’s main gate to keep that entrance open permanently.
- Enter Ravaged Hideout through the newly accessible dungeon entrance and take the lift down when you reach it.
- Follow the main path through the corrupted rock corridors and gaps. A Gloom-lit Beacon, an open clearing, and a nearby chest are reported along the route. The chest is optional; its exact landmark differs between guides.
- Continue toward the final room. Near the pickup, deal with or bypass the three enemies reported around the reward area.
- Interact with the slumped soldier or corpse to collect the Salvaged Trebuchaxe.
The most useful interior anchors are the lift, the Gloom-lit Beacon, the central clearing, the gaps, and the final body. Current sources disagree on whether the chest is beside a corrupter pillar or near a Gloom Tree, and on the exact order of the upper path. Do not treat those minor differences as a second route or search for coordinates.
Bloodcursed Lithopod and the Citadel Gate Lever
Section titled “Bloodcursed Lithopod and the Citadel Gate Lever”The Lithopod is both the local boss encounter and the progression context for the Hideout. Its death produces the Citadel Gate Lever, which you can use in two ways:
- Enter the nearby Ravaged Hideout and collect the Trebuchaxe immediately.
- Return to the Citadel of Penance’s sealed main gate, place the Lever in the wall mechanism, and open the main entrance permanently for the current playthrough.
Some Citadel guides also describe a hidden teleport near One-Legged Wolf that drops the player into the Citadel’s prison cells. That is an alternative Citadel entrance, not a requirement for the Trebuchaxe. You do not need to defeat The Warden before entering Ravaged Hideout.
What the Salvaged Trebuchaxe does
Section titled “What the Salvaged Trebuchaxe does”The Trebuchaxe is a Sidearm that launches axes as projectiles. Holding the fire input charges the shot, trading speed and reach for heavier single-target burst. Current launch coverage positions it as a mid-range weapon that can one-shot some regular enemies with a well-aimed charged throw; treat that as a practical report rather than a universal damage guarantee.
It is a better fit for deliberate burst than for fast, long-range sniping. The Forgotten Crossbow is the more natural comparison when you want distant precision, while the Trebuchaxe rewards timing a charged shot against a committed target.
Tarforge and Tarstone context
Section titled “Tarforge and Tarstone context”You can upgrade the sidearm at the Tarforge after the Obsidian Lathe unlocks sidearm enhancements. See the Tarforge guide for that progression boundary.
Current database and guide coverage lists Tarred Fragment as a Trebuchaxe-specific ability stone and identifies Squall Stone, Charged Stone, Devout Stone, and other compatible options. AllThingsHow highlights Devout Stone for Resolve recovery on a kill and Charged Stone for faster charging. These are build ideas, not prerequisites, and this page does not claim fixed percentages or damage values.
Chop Chop trophy and all-Sidearms achievement
Section titled “Chop Chop trophy and all-Sidearms achievement”The official Steam achievement list defines:
- Chop Chop — “Unlock the Salvaged Trebuchaxe.”
- Guns. Lots of Guns — “Unlock all Sidearms.”
The item pickup is the supported completion event. Confirm the Trebuchaxe in your inventory and watch for Chop Chop. For the eight-sidearm checklist, use the Sidearms guide; for broader completion planning, use Trophies and Achievements.
Balance Patch 1 status
Section titled “Balance Patch 1 status”Cold Symmetry’s Balance Patch 1 notes list changes to other weapons, a Squall Stone buff, and general fixes, but do not list a direct Salvaged Trebuchaxe damage, firing, charge, or range change. Do not carry over a claimed Trebuchaxe buff or nerf from another weapon’s patch entry. Later platform or build changes should still be checked against the current game version.
Common mistakes
Section titled “Common mistakes”- Treating the Citadel Gate Lever as the weapon reward. It opens the route; the Trebuchaxe is on the body at the end of Ravaged Hideout.
- Searching for exact coordinates or relying on one compass bearing. Current descriptions vary between south and southeast of Gloomshade Grove.
- Confusing the named Bloodcursed Lithopod with a normal Lithopod or the source typo “Lichopod.”
- Assuming the Hideout requires The Warden, the Citadel main gate, or the One-Legged Wolf teleport.
- Treating the optional chest, Laterite, Tooth of Nochte, or a reported post-pickup wraith encounter as a universal mandatory step.
- Publishing unsupported fixed damage, Resolve, charge-time, ammunition, or Tarstone numbers.
What happens next?
Section titled “What happens next?”After the pickup, confirm the Trebuchaxe in your Sidearms inventory and check whether Chop Chop has triggered. Install the Citadel Gate Lever at the main gate if you want the permanent Citadel entrance, or use the Sidearms guide to continue the eight-item collection. For upgrades, see Tarforge and Tarstones.
