Answer-first numbered route (showing the optional Solnir stop):

  1. Reach the Gate of Infinity Beacon in Mammon and cleanse it if the Faded Citadel entrance is blocked.
  2. Enter Faded Citadel and climb through the Ashen Sanctum (egg-filled cave → staircase → balcony → Laterite pickup → stone platform) to the Citadel Annex Beacon.
  3. Activate Citadel Annex. To take the Annex reward, choose Cleanse Beacon and clear the Hushed Sanctum sequence (bridge → caster/spider rooms → red rift → high ledge → touch the corrupted core) for the Stillblade’s Stone.
  4. Continue on the main path from Citadel Annex. Use the tree/chest/stairs-left landmark to find the descent to Citadel Atrium Beacon. Watch for blue-flame zones and Servants en route.
  5. From Citadel Atrium, continue the only available path toward the boss approach. When Ruk and the Lazlo summon sign appear, decide whether to spend 1 Glimpse, then drop to Isaac’s arena.
  6. Optional: stop for Solnir (reported between two blue flames). This is a route-side optional fight and not required to reach Isaac.
  7. Fight Isaac, the Scholar Prince — use the dedicated guide for combat specifics: Isaac, the Scholar Prince guide.
  8. After Isaac, activate/cleanse Scholar‑Prince’s Chamber Beacon and collect its Ova before leaving. See the Ova and Beacons guides for handoff steps.

Start at the Gate of Infinity Beacon in Mammon. Sources agree Gate of Infinity must be cleansed if the entrance is still blocked; use the Beacon label and the visible Corrupted Gate to confirm access rather than an overworld turn-by-turn path. Overworld approaches vary between guides, so treat the Beacon as the reliable confirmation.

Ashen Sanctum is the main interior approach inside Faded Citadel. The consistent landmarks in current coverage are: an egg-filled cave, a staircase to a balcony, a Laterite pickup near the balcony, and a stone platform opening that leads toward Citadel Annex. The Summoning Stone is reported in an Ashen Sanctum sarcophagus at Gate of Infinity — treat this as a missable check while you pass the Ashen Sanctum approach.

Follow the stone platform opening to the Citadel Annex Beacon and activate it. If you choose to Cleanse the Annex Beacon you are sent into Hushed Sanctum — a separate cleanse dungeon with its own rooms and objectives. The Annex → Hushed Sanctum chain is a deliberate side route and not an alternate name for the main Ashen Sanctum area.

When you pick Cleanse Beacon at Citadel Annex, the expected Hushed Sanctum sequence reported by sources is: cross a narrow bridge (ranged caster), move through a tunnel with melee enemies and spiders, climb stairs past a teleporting lightning caster, clear a large pillared spider room, perform a platforming/drop section into a circular arena, use a red rift to reach a high ledge guarded by a mage and a chest, then interact with the corrupted crystal core. A final “Beacon Cleansed” message confirms completion.

An optional objective reported in local coverage sits below Citadel Annex. From the Annex rest point, turn away from the normal ascent, drop to the lower courtyard, clear dual-sword enemies, and inspect a candle-ringed stone dish to get the Faded Gland. This is part of the Seedbearer’s Scripture offering; see the Seedbearer’s Scripture page for full context: Seedbearer’s Scripture.

Blue-flame zones and the Servants of the Scholar‑Prince are encountered on the main approach to the boss in current coverage. Guides place the blue flames and Servants at slightly different points in the prose, but they belong to the same main-path sequence between Annex and the Atrium/boss approach. Follow the next visible Beacon and the main route rather than forcing a single fixed room order.

Why can’t I damage enemies in Faded Citadel?

Section titled “Why can’t I damage enemies in Faded Citadel?”

Blue-flame protection is the usual blocker. Parts of the route and some enemies are protected by blue-flame mechanics that prevent normal damage or change how damage applies. You must handle the blue-flame/protection mechanic (or clear the protecting element) before enemy health behaves normally. Expect Servant encounters and protective lanterns or flames on the way to Atrium and the boss area; resolving those is required to proceed and to damage normally.

Citadel Atrium is the second interior Beacon on the main Faded Citadel route. From Citadel Annex, the commonly reported landmark chain is: open the chest near a tree, take the stairs down on the chest’s left, then continue down the main path until you reach the Atrium Beacon. Use the Beacon label as your route check: activate it and continue deeper along the only available path toward the boss descent.

Solnir, the Gloom Seeker, is an optional encounter reported in the Faded Citadel. Sources place Solnir “between two blue flames” but do not give a dependable Beacon or fixed room. Treat Solnir as optional: you may clear it for the reported Solnir Shard reward, but it is not required for the Isaac route or to reach the Scholar‑Prince’s Chamber.

Continue past Citadel Atrium along the main path. Near the final approach you will encounter Ruk and the Lazlo summon sign; at that point you may spend 1 Glimpse to activate Lazlo before dropping into Isaac’s arena. For specific combat phases, timing, and disputed Riposte/patch-sensitive mechanics, use the dedicated boss guide: Isaac, the Scholar Prince guide.

Defeat Isaac, then activate or cleanse the Scholar‑Prince’s Chamber Beacon and collect its Ova before leaving. Guides report Ova in the post-boss Beacon; do not assume a fixed quantity — collect the in-game Ova prompt and follow the Ova guide and the Beacons and fast travel guide for next steps.

Citadel Annex → Citadel Atrium → Scholar‑Prince’s Chamber (compact progress checks):

  • Citadel Annex — role: first interior Beacon; next: choose Cleanse to enter Hushed Sanctum for Stillblade’s Stone or continue the main path to Atrium. Warning: if you skip the corrupted core in Hushed Sanctum the Beacon will not show “Cleansed.”
  • Citadel Atrium — role: second interior Beacon and main-route descent marker; next: continue the single path toward the boss approach (watch for blue-flame zones and Servant encounters).
  • Scholar‑Prince’s Chamber — role: post-boss Beacon and Ova handoff; next: collect Ova and follow Ova/Beacon guides for progression.
  • Summoning Stone — reported in an Ashen Sanctum sarcophagus at Gate of Infinity (missable while passing the Ashen Sanctum approach). See Tarstones context: Tarstones.
  • Faded Gland — optional Seedbearer objective below Citadel Annex; see Seedbearer’s Scripture.
  • Hushed Sanctum / Stillblade’s Stone — reward for cleansing Citadel Annex (touching the corrupted crystal core) reported as the Stillblade’s Stone (a Tarstone). See Tarstones.
  • Solnir / Solnir Shard — Solnir is an optional route-side encounter reportedly between two blue flames; the Solnir Shard is listed as the reported reward. This encounter is optional and not required for the Isaac route.
  • Scholar‑Prince’s Chamber Ova — collect the post-boss Ova after defeating Isaac; do not rely on a fixed quantity listed here — use the in-game prompt and the Ova guide.
  • Skipping Gate of Infinity cleanse: if the Gate of Infinity Beacon is blocked the Faded Citadel entrance may be inaccessible. Use the Beacon label to confirm access.
  • Taking the Hushed Sanctum chest and leaving: the Hushed Sanctum requires touching the corrupted crystal core to register the Beacon as Cleansed; merely taking a chest is not enough.
  • Expecting to damage through blue flames: blue-flame protection will prevent regular damage until the mechanic is handled.
  • Treating Solnir as mandatory: Solnir is optional and reported between two blue flames; you can skip it and still reach Isaac.
  • Assuming fixed Ova counts: sources report Ova at the post-boss Beacon, but do not rely on a single fixed number in this route guide.
