The Troubadour’s Lute is on the stage inside the One-Legged Wolf Tavern in eastern Fainweald, near the One-Legged Wolf Beacon. The approach is blocked by corruption until you have Mether’s Breath from the Marrow Keep / Ova Nursery Gloom Siphon progression. For Heavy Metal, equip the Lute, play every track, and cycle through the selector until all five tracks reported by current launch guides have been played.

Published guides disagree on the early Ova threshold for Mether’s Breath, so follow the in-game Siphon prompt instead of treating one guide’s number as universal. The tavern-stage location is the current launch route; the Mushroom Village chest belongs to older beta-era reporting.

Route from Mushroom Village Gate to the tavern

Section titled “Route from Mushroom Village Gate to the tavern”

Follow this route once Mether’s Breath is available and the Mushroom Village-side Beacon is part of your route network:

  1. Travel to the Mushroom Village Beacon / Mushroom Village Gate.
  2. Leave the Beacon area and cross the wooden bridge. A large spider-like enemy is reported near the bridge; dodging past it is a practical option if you do not want to stop and fight.
  3. Continue to the dark corruption barrier and use the Cleanse Corruption prompt.
  4. On the opened side, deal with or pass the reported Cannibal Knight, then bear right and continue uphill toward the One-Legged Wolf Beacon.
  5. Revitalize or activate the Beacon if needed so it becomes a reliable route anchor.
  6. Follow the dirt path from the Beacon to the One-Legged Wolf Tavern and enter. The tavern is reported as non-hostile.
  7. Move to the stage. The Lute is described as on the stage, behind or to the left of the performer, or leaning against the wall behind them. Interact with it to pick it up.

The Ova guide covers the Siphon and Mether’s Breath progression. For the wider Beacon route and fast-travel boundary, see Beacon locations and fast travel.

The tavern pickup does not require a reported boss fight, puzzle, dialogue choice, or quest completion inside the building. Interact with the instrument and then place the Lute in your sidearm slot.

The Lute uses Resolve as its sidearm resource and applies Confusion through musical blasts, according to current launch guides. Confused enemies attack nearby allies instead of focusing on Harbinger for a short period. It is most useful against groups, where you can use the opening to reposition, land safe melee hits, or rebuild Resolve; it is less valuable as a single-target damage tool.

One secondary guide reports a five-cast capacity and about five seconds of Confusion per cast. Treat those as guide observations rather than fixed universal stats, especially if your platform is on a different patch.

While you are in the tavern, you can also speak to Gragu. His Heart of Vatra route starts in the same building, so use the Gragu guide if you want to combine the two objectives.

The official Steam achievement entry defines Heavy Metal as “Play all Lute Tracks in the Game.” The PS5 trophy listing uses the same requirement. The official wording does not give a track count; current launch guides report five tracks.

Use this cleanup sequence:

  1. Equip the Troubadour’s Lute as your active sidearm.
  2. Move to a safe area where you can test the instrument without an enemy interrupting you. The checked sources do not establish that an enemy must be hit.
  3. Aim and play the currently loaded track.
  4. Use your sidearm track-cycle input to select the next track.
  5. Continue playing and cycling until all five reported tracks have been played once. The trophy is expected to trigger after the last unique track.

No checked source establishes a required song order, a kill condition, or a particular location where the tracks must be played. Platform-specific examples such as LT/L2, X/Square, and D-pad cycling are source-reported examples, not universal bindings; use your current control settings.

Cold Symmetry’s Balance Patch 1 post dated August 20, 2026 lists “Troubador’s Lute Attack Damage +100%” under Weapons. The developer post uses the “Troubador” spelling; the item and current guide sources use “Troubadour.” This is a direct damage buff and does not by itself document a change to Confusion or to the Heavy Metal requirement. See the Balance Patch 1 guide for the wider update status.

Launch coverage says the Lute was moved from an open-beta Mushroom Village chest, opened through offering stations, to the One-Legged Wolf Tavern. That location change is not listed in the checked official Balance Patch 1 note, so treat it as a beta-versus-launch correction supported by current launch guides. If an older guide sends you to the chest, use the tavern-stage route instead.

The developer’s Balance Patch 1 discussion also contains a player report that stowing the Lute and sprinting could cause a sit-down / softlock state; the developer said the issue was on its list to investigate. This is a reported bug, not a confirmed universal failure or documented current fix. Update to the current build and do not treat the report as an automatic trophy blocker.

  • Treating a published Ova total as a universal Mether’s Breath requirement. Follow the in-game Gloom Siphon prompt.
  • Looking for the Lute in the old beta chest instead of the launch tavern.
  • Searching the tavern for a puzzle or boss. The reported pickup is an environmental interaction on the stage.
  • Trying to play tracks before equipping the Lute as the active sidearm.
  • Assuming Heavy Metal requires hits, kills, a fixed order, or a particular location. The official requirement only says to play all tracks.
  • Assuming another platform uses the same sidearm buttons shown in a guide.

After collecting the Lute, you can use it as a Confusion-focused sidearm or finish Heavy Metal immediately in a safe area. If you are collecting every sidearm, return to the Sidearms guide. For broader completion planning, use the Trophies and Achievements guide.
