Glutted Mire is the Corrupted Gate route beyond Mushroom Village Gate Beacon. Clear the Hall of Illusions first, then follow the Mire’s named Beacon chain: Seeping Mire, Sunken Village, and Magdalena’s Glade. The key optional pickup is the Etching Needles chest after the shepherd encounter and before Magdalena, Lady of the Woods; return the needles to Franz at the Marrow Keep Tarforge to unlock Tarstone Tempering.
The area has two naming conflicts in current walkthroughs: one Beacon is called Seeping Mire or Sleeping Mire, and the shepherd is called Tarblighted Shepherd or Wandering Shepherd. Follow the label shown by your Beacon and use the shepherd’s red-glowing sheep mechanic as the practical route check. This guide uses landmarks, not map coordinates, because the available route descriptions do not share a calibrated coordinate system.
Glutted Mire route at a glance
Section titled “Glutted Mire route at a glance”- Clear Hall of Illusions from Mushroom Village Gate Beacon.
- Enter the opened Corrupted Gate and pass the early tripwire/arrow section.
- Activate and cleanse Seeping Mire. Some guides call this Sleeping Mire.
- Continue through the poison-heavy village route to Sunken Village Beacon.
- Cross toward the shepherd encounter and defeat it through the red-sheep Break mechanic.
- Pass the board gap and wooden walkways, use Ruk as your landmark, and collect the Etching Needles before Magdalena.
- Drop from the final ledge into Magdalena’s arena.
- After the fight, activate and cleanse Magdalena’s Glade Beacon, collect its Ova, and return to Marrow Keep.
Before entering the Mire
Section titled “Before entering the Mire”Clear Mushroom Village Gate first
Section titled “Clear Mushroom Village Gate first”Start at Mushroom Village Gate Beacon in Fainweald and enter its Beacon dungeon. The Hall of Illusions guide covers the perspective-doorway puzzle, hidden wall, and Vrannic encounter. Completing that dungeon opens the path toward Glutted Mire.
If the gate is still blocked, do not search for a side entrance in the swamp. Recheck the Hall of Illusions completion and the Beacon interaction. For the difference between discovering, cleansing, and travelling from Beacons, use Beacons and fast travel.
Pack for poison and burn pressure
Section titled “Pack for poison and burn pressure”The early Mire route contains poison enemies and tripwire arrows. Move through the wire section deliberately, then keep enough healing for the village and shepherd route. Magdalena adds fire pressure, so a burn-mitigation option is useful if you already have one; the Magdalena guide covers the encounter’s current advice.
Do not treat a particular Shell or weapon as mandatory. A familiar weapon with short recovery animations is more useful here than an untested build, especially once the route reaches Magdalena.
Complete Glutted Mire walkthrough
Section titled “Complete Glutted Mire walkthrough”1. Enter through the opened Corrupted Gate
Section titled “1. Enter through the opened Corrupted Gate”From Mushroom Village Gate, go through the route that the Hall of Illusions clear opened. Watch for the early tripwires that fire arrows. The safest answer is to identify the wire, dash through its trigger area, and reset your position before taking the next fight; do not sprint blindly through multiple traps while poisoned.
The route then opens into the swamp. Poison enemies are the main early pressure, so pull them into manageable groups instead of letting several surround you on a narrow walkway.
2. Activate and cleanse Seeping Mire
Section titled “2. Activate and cleanse Seeping Mire”The first Mire checkpoint is labelled Seeping Mire in the local Beacon coverage. One external walkthrough calls it Sleeping Mire. These descriptions point to the same first Mire checkpoint; use the name displayed in your current game rather than assuming a missing Beacon.
Activate the Beacon and complete its cleanse when the menu offers it. The cleanse is a useful reset before the deeper village route. Remember that resting at a Beacon and cleansing its corruption are separate actions; the Beacon guide explains that distinction.
3. Sweep the Sunken Village route
Section titled “3. Sweep the Sunken Village route”Continue across the wooden bridge into the next village section and look for Sunken Village Beacon. Activate it before committing to the deeper route.
The village also has an offering chest reported to require three candles. Current walkthrough coverage places one candle on a fence outside a house, one near the ritual area on a short stone pillar, and one inside a cage with a poison enemy. Lighting all three opens the chest with the source-reported Siegebreaker’s Stone Tarstone. Treat the item name as launch-window guide evidence rather than a promise that every platform or later patch uses identical wording.
After the Beacon route, clear the lower enemies and follow the stairs and ledges. One route description places a Corroded Stone chest before the Ova at the end of this branch. If a drop looks like the only way forward, descend from ledge to ledge instead of jumping from the top. Complete the cleanse and collect the gland/Ova interaction the game presents before returning toward the bridge.
For the wider resource loop, see Tarstones and Gloom farming.
4. Defeat the shepherd encounter
Section titled “4. Defeat the shepherd encounter”Near the bridge beyond the Sunken Village section, the route reaches the shepherd encounter. Sources disagree on the name: Tarblighted Shepherd appears in current local Tarstone/Tarforge coverage and AllThingsHow, while Into Indie Games calls it The Wandering Shepherd. The mechanic is the more reliable identifier.
Several sheep appear in the arena. When the relevant sheep glow red, attack those sheep to fill the encounter’s Break meter. Do not waste the opening by chasing the shepherd directly: current walkthroughs report that direct pressure can make the boss teleport or transform the player into a sheep. When the Break meter fills, take the riposte opportunity and repeat until the encounter is complete.
5. Find the Etching Needles before Magdalena
Section titled “5. Find the Etching Needles before Magdalena”After the shepherd, break the crates and pass through the gap in the wooden boards. Continue across the next wooden walkway/bridge and look for Ruk on or near an arch. The Etching Needles are in a chest in this pre-Magdalena section.
The exact approach is not settled in the sources: one description puts the chest just past Ruk, another puts it at the far end of the bridge, and another describes dropping below the obvious route into a side alcove. Use the shared landmarks—board gap, bridge/walkways, Ruk, and the approach to Magdalena—and inspect the side/below route before dropping into the boss arena. This guide deliberately publishes no coordinates or universal left/right turn.
Take the Etching Needles before continuing. The normal progression is to return to Franz in Marrow Keep and hand them over at the Tarforge. That unlocks Temper Tarstones; see the Tarforge guide for the component handoff and the Tarstones guide for XP, compatibility, and upgrade context.
6. Reach Magdalena’s arena
Section titled “6. Reach Magdalena’s arena”Continue beyond the Etching Needles section until the route ends at a ledge overlooking the flooded woods. Dropping from this ledge starts Magdalena, Lady of the Woods.
The existing Magdalena page is Open Beta-scoped, so use it for legacy context only; the current fight guidance below is based on launch-window walkthrough cross-checks.
Magdalena: short route-safe fight plan
Section titled “Magdalena: short route-safe fight plan”Magdalena’s charge and fire-spin attacks are the important route blockers. Hold mid range, let the charge come to you, dodge the vehicle/charge sequence, and take only one or two quick hits during recovery. Do not try to parry every attack.
Build the Break meter with safe melee or ranged hits, then use the Riposte when the opening appears. Around the later portion of the fight, keep moving when summoned small enemies appear and pull Magdalena away from any fly cloud or burning ground before resuming pressure. A fast weapon or familiar reach option is more important than a claimed universal “best” loadout.
For the full current evidence boundary, use the Magdalena guide. It documents the recurring beta/full-game naming boundary instead of treating older Open Beta phase descriptions as official patch data.
Finish the Glutted Mire route
Section titled “Finish the Glutted Mire route”After defeating Magdalena, search the arena for Magdalena’s Glade Beacon. Current Beacon checklists and walkthroughs place this Beacon after the boss encounter. Activate it, cleanse it, and collect the Ova the game provides. The exact Ova quantity is intentionally omitted because the checked sources do not agree on a single number.
Return the Ova through the Marrow Keep progression loop. If you want to spend the newly collected currency safely, use the Ova guide and Gloom farming guide. If you left the Etching Needles with Franz, confirm that Temper Tarstones now appears at the Tarforge.

What is uncertain in current Glutted Mire guides?
Section titled “What is uncertain in current Glutted Mire guides?”Are Seeping Mire and Sleeping Mire different Beacons?
Section titled “Are Seeping Mire and Sleeping Mire different Beacons?”The local guide and current Beacon checklist use Seeping Mire. One walkthrough uses Sleeping Mire for the first Mire Beacon. The checked evidence does not establish two separate first-route Beacons, so follow the in-game label and the route’s next named anchor, Sunken Village.
Is the shepherd Tarblighted or Wandering?
Section titled “Is the shepherd Tarblighted or Wandering?”Both names appear in current sources. Tarblighted Shepherd is used by the local Tarstones/Tarforge guides and AllThingsHow; Wandering Shepherd is used by Into Indie Games and the older Open Beta Magdalena page. The red-glowing-sheep Break mechanic is the cross-source route check.
Where exactly is the Etching Needles chest?
Section titled “Where exactly is the Etching Needles chest?”The sources agree that it is after the shepherd and before Magdalena, near the board gap/bridge and Ruk. They differ on whether the chest is at the far end of the bridge, just past Ruk, or below the obvious route. Search that landmark cluster and inspect deliberate drops; do not rely on an invented coordinate.
Is the Magdalena page on this site a full-game source?
Section titled “Is the Magdalena page on this site a full-game source?”No. The existing Magdalena page is explicitly an Open Beta page. This walkthrough keeps its route and reward wording separate from the launch-window sources and leaves the guide status as needs-verification.
