  1. Collect Mether’s Flesh from the hidden side room in the lower route through Sanguine Caverns.
  2. Travel to Outskirts of Nochte Beacon in Fainweald, enter the nearby stream/cave, and find the giant fish and the small altar/cup beside it.
  3. At the altar choose Offer Item → Mether’s Flesh. The interaction transports you to Mango Sanctuary.
  4. Follow the tunnel and pick up the large golden Mango. Ascension should unlock on that pickup.

The trophy/achievement is the hidden Bronze objective described as “Discover the secret of the Mango.” The fish interaction is only the transport step; the final trigger is discovering the Mango.

If your save has not opened the caverns, use the Stonebled Gate Beacon route. The existing Sanguine Caverns walkthrough covers the local sequence of Stonebled Gate → Pulsing Caves → Sanguine Shoreline.

The Ascension sources use different starting labels—some say Cleansed Gate, Pulsing Caves, or Sanguine Shoreline. Use the named Beacons and visible landmarks in your build rather than treating one source’s cardinal direction as universal.

From Pulsing Caves or Sanguine Shoreline, backtrack into the lower cavern route. Use the visible hole/ledges, bridge area, and explosive enemies as landmarks.

  1. Follow the lower path until you reach the cavern section with explosive enemies and a torch.
  2. Look for the blocked side entrance. Sources describe the obstruction as stalagmites, a spiked wall, or a hidden barrier beside exploding statues.
  3. Clear or hit the visible barrier until the side entrance opens. The sources do not establish one universal prompt name for this interaction.
  4. Enter the hidden room and take Mether’s Flesh from the podium/altar area beside a chest or sarcophagus.
  5. Confirm the item is in your inventory before leaving.

If you started at Sanguine Shoreline, one route description has you backtrack through the short cave and bridge area, clear the exploding enemies on the left, and hit the stalagmites to reach the item. Another starts at Pulsing Caves, drops through a hole, and follows ledges to three exploding statues beside a torch. These descriptions point to the same kind of hidden lower-cavern detour, but their local names differ.

3. Take Mether’s Flesh to the giant fish

Section titled “3. Take Mether’s Flesh to the giant fish”

Travel to Outskirts of Nochte Beacon in Fainweald. From the Beacon, look for the ruined archway/structure and the stream or water route leading into a torch-lit cave.

  1. Follow the stream or stay to the left through the archway until you reach the cave.
  2. Find the large fish. Sources call it a giant fish statue, a fish NPC, or a big blue fish.
  3. Locate the small altar or cup beside it.
  4. Interact with the altar and choose Offer Item.
  5. Select Mether’s Flesh from your inventory.

The offering triggers an automatic transport. Current guides describe the fish/creature swallowing the Harbinger as the intended transition; you do not need to fight it.

After the transition, follow the short tunnel into Mango Sanctuary. In the open area, find the large golden Mango—one guide places it near a red tree—and interact with or pick it up.

Wait for the platform trophy/achievement notification before leaving. The sources agree that the Mango pickup, rather than reaching the Sanctuary or feeding the fish, is the action that completes the secret.

Supported practical requirements are:

  • Access to the Sanguine Caverns route.
  • Access to the Fainweald route containing Outskirts of Nochte.
  • Mether’s Flesh in your inventory when using the fish-side altar.
  • Picking up the golden Mango in Mango Sanctuary.

The checked sources do not establish any of the following as universal Ascension requirements:

  • a specific boss kill or boss order;
  • a fixed Ova/Ovum total;
  • a fixed character level, Shell, weapon, sidearm, or Tarstone;
  • Mether’s Breath as a direct requirement for the secret.

If corruption blocks a route in your save, see the Ova and corruption guide and Beacons and fast travel guide for broader progression context. That does not prove a universal Ova or Mether’s Breath gate specific to Ascension.

Ascension is optional, hidden, and easy to overlook because its description does not name Mether’s Flesh, the fish, or the Mango.

Current third-party coverage conflicts on how strongly to describe its missable status. Some pages call the chain easy to miss; others place Ascension in a missable-trophy roundup or say the Mango appears once per run. Other guides simply advise picking it up rather than leaving it. No checked developer patch note establishes a permanent lockout or a universal one-run rule.

The safest practical precaution is to complete the chain and confirm the trophy before choosing Send Ova, the irreversible action that starts New Game Plus. Treat that as a save-protection recommendation, not proof that Ascension is permanently missable. See the New Game Plus guide for the broader cleanup boundary.

There are also source spelling and naming variants: Mether’s, Mather’s, or Mother’s Flesh; and fish statue, fish NPC, or large blue fish. This page uses the repository’s Mether's Flesh spelling and the in-game Beacon names where possible.

  • Verify Mether’s Flesh in the inventory before approaching the fish altar. If you reach the fish without it, the offering/transport will not trigger according to the checked route sources.
  • Do not assume the fish is a boss or that the offering starts a fight. The described sequence is automatic transport.
  • Do not leave Mango Sanctuary until the trophy notification appears. If it does not, verify that you offered Mether’s Flesh and actually picked up the Mango.
  • The trophy is tied to discovering the Mango, not to equipping it afterward. Third-party pages report that the Mango can be worn as a cosmetic mask and may have a passive use, but those post-pickup details and any numeric health effect are not consistently cross-checked here.
  • Leaving the hidden Sanguine Caverns room without confirming Mether’s Flesh in the inventory.
  • Reaching the Outskirts of Nochte fish without the item and expecting the transport to happen anyway.
  • Searching for one universal Beacon name when the route descriptions use Cleansed Gate, Pulsing Caves, and Sanguine Shoreline differently.
  • Treating the stalagmites/spiked wall descriptions as a precise universal prompt rather than using the visible barrier and torch/explosive-enemy landmarks.
  • Attacking the fish or expecting a boss encounter.
  • Leaving Mango Sanctuary before confirming the platform popup.

On successful completion, Ascension should appear when you pick up the golden Mango. You can then continue normal exploration; the secret itself is complete.

For broader cleanup, return to the Trophies and Achievements guide. If the trophy does not appear, first repeat the two state checks that are supported by the route evidence: Mether’s Flesh was offered at the altar, and the Mango was actually picked up.

The checked Cold Symmetry Balance Patch 1 notes list economy, boss, enemy, weapon, Tarstone, and stability changes, but no direct change to Ascension, Mether’s Flesh, the fish interaction, or Mango Sanctuary. The official Hotfix 2.0 notes list crash/stability, Slayer Seal UI, and riposte weapon fixes, but no Ascension/Mango change.

This is a checked launch-window observation, not a guarantee about future patches or simultaneous platform rollout. See the local Balance Patch 1 guide for the wider update context.
