Yes. Mortal Shell 2 starts New Game Plus when you return to the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep after the final-boss route and choose Send Ova.

  1. Finish the final route and defeat the final boss sequence.
  2. Return to the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep.
  3. Select Send Ova.

Defeating the final boss is not the same as starting New Game Plus. Current launch-build coverage says you can continue cleaning up the current save until you select Send Ova, but the choice is irreversible and does not show a confirmation prompt.

The Send Ova choice at the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep

The current launch reports describe New Game Plus as generous with character-side progress. These are the reported carry-over categories:

Progress Reported behavior
Character Level and Shell Points carry over.
Shells Unlocked Shells and their memories carry over.
Gear Weapons, sidearms, Seals, materials, keys, permanent pickups, and applied upgrades carry over.
Tarstones Collected Tarstones and invested Tarstone upgrades carry over.
Currencies Glimpse, Gloom, and gold carry over.
Upgrades Mether’s Pulse and Tarforge progress carry over.
Map Revealed areas remain revealed. Custom map markers are reported to be cleared.

New Game Plus rebuilds the world around the progress you kept:

  • Most Beacons need cleansing again, apart from the two Beacons that start unlocked.
  • Cleared dungeons and Corrupted Gates repopulate.
  • Enemies and bosses return.
  • Quests restart and NPCs who died in the first run return.
  • Ovum returns to zero.

This is why the transition is best treated as a new world with an established character, not as a simple difficulty toggle.

This section summarizes the practical differences you can expect when you Send Ova. Where mechanics are only community-observed, wording reflects that uncertainty.

Current player testing and community reports suggest enemies in NG+ have noticeably higher health and deal more damage than in the first run. Exact scaling formulas or percentages have not been officially documented, so treat encounter difficulty as meaningfully increased but not precisely quantified.

Community reports indicate the first NG+ transition shows the clearest difficulty jump. Reports for further cycles (NG+2, NG+3) are mixed: some players say they saw little or inconsistent additional scaling beyond the first NG+, while others report continued challenge. This appears to be community-observed and has not been officially confirmed.

Revealed map areas are reported to remain visible after Send Ova, which can make the world look partially explored on your next run. However, most Beacons need to be cleansed again in the new cycle and Fast Travel availability follows the new-cycle Beacon state rather than map visibility alone. In short: you may see the map, but you still need to reactivate Beacons before you can fast travel through them. See the Beacons and fast travel guide for travel tips.

Launch-period community observations suggest ordinary Gold and Gloom drops do not appear to scale dramatically solely because you entered NG+. That said, some elite encounters and reworked dungeon content can yield different drop opportunities in a rebuilt world. This is community-reported and not presented as an absolute rule.

Weapons, sidearms, and Tarstones do not respawn as duplicate gear because those items already carry over. Reported behavior is that the original pickup locations in the world are replaced with upgrade materials or other non-duplicate resources in NG+. Preserve inventory expectations and plan upgrades accordingly.

Current launch reporting says Revered Glands and Synaptic Vessels return to their original locations in New Game Plus. They can be collected again for additional Mether’s Pulse progress.

Weapons, sidearms, and Tarstones do not respawn as duplicate gear. Their old pickup locations are reported to hold upgrade materials instead, since the original items already carry over.

Community reports suggest Tarcore remains a bottleneck across NG+ cycles. Entering NG+ is not a guaranteed way to fully max every Tarstone; Tarcore availability and the ability to finish every Tarstone upgrade still require verification and may remain limited. Treat Tarcore as a continuing resource constraint rather than an automatically solved one in NG+.

The interactive readiness layer below keeps the current article as the canonical NG+ guide while separating known toolkit progress from manual trophy and patch-sensitive checks. It does not produce a readiness score.

For the late-game route, the current guide set reports a 168 Ovum milestone, four underground bosses ending with Zmey, and a return to the Siphon before Send Ova becomes the transition choice. Use the Ova guide for that route rather than duplicating it here.

  • Selecting Send Ova immediately after the final boss without realizing there is no confirmation prompt.
  • Assuming the final boss itself starts New Game Plus.
  • Expecting weapons, sidearms, or Tarstones to appear again as duplicate pickups.
  • Forgetting that most Beacons, dungeons, quests, enemies, and bosses belong to the reset side.
  • Treating custom map markers as permanent; current reports say they are cleared even though revealed map areas remain.

After selecting Send Ova, the current run transitions into New Game Plus under the carry-over and reset rules above. Keep the Beacons and fast travel guide open for the rebuilt route, and use the Shells guide and Weapons guide to plan around the gear that already transferred.

Current launch reporting says unlocked Shells, weapons, sidearms, applied upgrades, Tarstones, Mether’s Pulse, and Tarforge progress carry over. Weapons and Shells do not return as duplicate pickups.

Most Beacons need cleansing again, dungeons and Corrupted Gates repopulate, enemies and bosses return, quests restart, and Ovum resets. Revealed areas are reported to remain revealed, while custom map markers are reported to clear.

Yes. Defeating the final boss does not itself start NG+. Selecting Send Ova is the reported irreversible choice, and current coverage says it does not show a confirmation prompt.

Community reports and current player testing suggest enemies in NG+ have higher health and deal more damage; exact scaling percentages are not officially confirmed.

Will NG+ give you more Tarcore or let you fully upgrade every Tarstone?

Section titled “Will NG+ give you more Tarcore or let you fully upgrade every Tarstone?”

Community reports suggest Tarcore remains limited across NG+ cycles. NG+ is not a guaranteed way to fully max every Tarstone; exact availability still needs verification.
